Responsibilities
Job Summary / PurposeThe RN Educator II is a Registered Nurse who works collaboratively within the System Clinical Education Department to create and facilitate clinical education curriculums including, but not limited to: competence initiatives and professional development activities to support both nursing and clinical practice across CHI Saint Joseph Health, improving the quality of patient care and nursing practice with resultant improved patient outcomes. The RN Educator II is responsive to evolving educational needs across the system and identifies, develops, and delivers educational programs for both individuals and groups in clinical, classroom, and virtual settings. The RN Educator II serves as a clinical expert, proficient educator, consultant, researcher, change agent, leader and interdisciplinary collaborator in specific area of responsibility across CHI Saint Joseph Health. The RN Educator II fosters empowerment of clinical staff by providing clinical instruction and support to assure clinical competency of staff and safe, effective delivery of patient care, incorporating evidence based practice (EBP), nursing research, and appropriate skill set standards and recommended practices. The RN Educator II actively participates in quality improvement (QI), EBP, and nursing research processes across the system. The RN Educator II also serves as a resource to the community by promoting community outreach, healthcare awareness, and educational opportunities. The RN Educator II works with area schools of nursing to facilitate academic practice partnerships and to support nursing clinical rotations at CHI Saint Joseph Health across the system. Essential Key Job ResponsibilitiesClinical ExpertServes as a role model to Nursing Staff in the delivery of excellent patient care for designated patient populationsCollaborates with nursing and interdisciplinary colleagues to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate strategies to address complex patient care issues.Assists staff with clinical decision-making and priority settingCollaborates with Clinical Leadership to develop, evaluate, and implement standards of patient care /care planning and professional practice with attention to quality, service, cost-effectiveness, comfort, safety, age-specific implications, and cultural competenceServes as a patient/family advocate, incorporating respect for and acknowledgement of cultural diversity and individual patient needsMaintains and integrates current evidenced-based knowledge into educational programmingPromotes an environment consistent with the core concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care, and demonstration of the core valuesEducatorFacilitates the ongoing education and professional development of the nursing staff and studentsCoordinates orientation of newly hired nursing department employees to the organizationPlans, prepares, and maintains materials for use in competency-based educational programs, utilizing current standards, regulations, and validated evidenced-based research Plans and coordinates in-services, orientation, and educational programs for clinical staff to meet competency requirements in accordance with departmental objectives and appropriate accreditation standardsCollaborates in the development or modification of patient education materials as appropriateCoordinates learning needs assessments for clinical staff and develops programs and competency strategies to address identified learning needs,Incorporates principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of education and competency programsCollaborates and incorporates learning technologies via simulation, LMS, virtual classroom, and multimediaCommunicates effectively in visual, oral, and written form and demonstrates effective presentation skillsAssists in the fiscal and administrative operations through cost- effective use of resources, and participation in revenue-generating activities identified for the department and the organizationFacilitates initial provider and renewal courses for ACLS, BLS, NRP, PALS (as applicable), including HeartCode administrationCooperates in the facilitation of departmental orientation and conducts a variety of in-service, orientation, and educational programs for clinical staff to meet competency assessment requirements in accordance with departmental objectives and accreditation standards, including but not limited to: Orientation; Initial and Ongoing Competencies; Core Curriculum; Required Certification Courses, Professional Development Program and Preceptor/Mentor ProgramsConsultant/Interdisciplinary Collaborator/Facilitator Serves as an educational consultant and/or facilitator to outside institutions as well as hospital committees, task forces, and projects. Maintains involvement in professional, community, and clinical specialty activities. Serves as a consultant to clinical staff, physicians, administration, nursing school programs, and the public for clinical education and the clinical nursing care of hospitalized patients. Role models customer service. Collaborates and supports clinical student rotations. Researcher Expands the scientific base of nursing practice by initiating and/or participating in continuous quality improvement and evidence based practice activities and/or research studies.Critically analyzes current nursing research methods and outcomes for inclusion in the curriculum content of education to support patient care. Supports and demonstrates validated evidence based practice. Disseminates research finding through clinical presentations and publications. Challenges existing practice when not aligned with current best practices. Minimum QualificationsRequired Education (for CHI Leadership Job Levels from Supervisor through President)Does Not ApplyRequired Education for Staff Job LevelsGraduate of an accredited school of Nursing – BSN required. Master’s Degree in Nursing, Education, Leadership or other health related field, or enrolled in an accredited program at the time of hire.Required Licensure and CertificationsUnrestricted RN license in Kentucky.BLS (AHA)National Certification in either clinical specialty or professional development at the time of hire. (ANPD or Clinical Education certification required within 1 year of establishing eligibility)Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesMinimum of 5 years as a Registered Nurse. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Proficient in EBP. Proficient in selection of equipment and supplies to be used in the orientation and onboarding of RNs.Experience in evaluating nursing competency.Effective conflict management techniques.Ability to adapt to changes in health care technology.Ability to organize varying schedules and multiple resources.PREFERRED QualificationsPrevious experience in education and teachingPrevious experience in learning technologies, adult learning theory, program planning and management, project management, and promoting and supporting change initiatives.Previous experience in the evaluation of learningPrevious experience in use of simulation as a teaching technique and ability to operate simulation equipment.
