Position description
The department is responsible to build, grow and protect Mayo Clinic’s reputation in a way that shapes the external environment and nurtures the culture to help achieve the mission of the organization. Department functions consist of reputation management including thought leadership and issues/crisis response; client communications and engagement programs; staff engagement; content and channels; government and community engagement; strategy and insights; communications services.

This position supports leadership communications and will partner with Mayo’s executive office to create and leverage executive leadership engagement and messaging strategies to advance Mayo’s workforce goals, lead through change and support Mayo’s strategy, mission and culture. Significant experience working with C-Suite leaders, writing executive-level content and preparing leadership messages for employee audiences is required. Develops and maintains relationships with Mayo Clinic executive leadership, staff and members of the local and national government and/or media to advance organizational awareness and achievements.

Position responsibilities include content discovery and message development, implementation of staff forums and other internal events, development and execution of internal executive visibility strategies, and collaboration across teams to ensure alignment. Must have strong communications planning skills and ability to pay attention to detail.

The manager is primarily responsible for the management of staff and/or programs and leveraging functional expertise. May serve enterprise and site leadership needs through participation on committees, task forces and workgroups.

Works Remotely 50% or more; business need requires employee to live within a reasonable driving distance of the Rochester, MN campus.

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 5 years of relevant work experience. Prefer experience working with senior leaders on executive content.

Additional qualifications
Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate in a way that creates clarity, simplifies messages, and aligns with organizational strategy. Knowledge of channels for communication and the ability to build effective communication and engagement strategies.

Must be a self-starter with the ability to independently identify opportunities, solutions and resolve challenges. Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful results. Demonstration of strong management skills including strategy and visioning, change management, resource management, and sound judgment are required. Demonstrated use of management principles of delegation, organization and execution to maximize the value of projects and initiatives is also essential. Excellent interpersonal skills to include presentation, negotiation, persuasion, team facilitation, constructive feedback and written communications skills are required. Superior project management experience, knowledge and skills must be demonstrated. Incumbent must have the ability to independently manage a varied workload of projects with multiple priorities. Demonstrates interest in continuous learning and professional development, in addition to functional area expertise.

Schedule details
Typical business hours, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Central, with off hours availability as needed. Most work will be completed remotely, but candidates must be located within a reasonable driving distance of the Rochester, MN campus, and have the ability to work on campus when needed. Limited travel may be required.

Weekend schedule
Position is primarily Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. with weekend availability as needed.
