Description: Job Summary:
Under direct supervision and control of a licensed pharmacist, may perform packaging, manipulative, repetitive, and other non-discretionary tasks, including removing drugs from stock; counting, pouring, or mixing pharmaceuticals; placing product into a container; affixing label(s) to container; packaging and repackaging. Performs other duties as required.
Essential Responsibilities:

Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.  Selects pharmaceutical product specified on prescription for dispensing.  Selects product according to policies regarding generic equivalents and therapeutic interchanges. Accurately prepares pharmacy products according to quality assurance criteria.  Reconstitutes pharmaceutical products for dispensing. Places pharmaceutical product in proper container, with appropriate label(s) as dictated by pharmacy regulations and standards.  Adds personal initials to prescription form, label, refill record, or other documents as required. Exhibits working knowledge and adherence to federal and state laws, standards, rules and regulations, regional and departmental policies and procedures governing the practice and operation of Pharmacy services. Alerts pharmacist when prescribed medications may be contraindicated as identified by pharmacy computer, patient, etc., due to allergies, sensitivities, therapeutic overlaps, or interaction. Accurately prices prescriptions and pharmacy merchandise according to current policies and procedures. Maintains pharmacy merchandise in designated areas.  Places or returns merchandise to stock.  Orders pharmacy merchandise as appropriate. Operates and maintains pharmacy equipment.  Keeps assigned work area and equipment in an organized and clean condition.  Maintains a safe, secure, and efficient work environment. Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations with the public, patients, and other personnel. Assists the pharmacist or performs the duties of the pharmacy assistant/cashier and/or inventory control assistant/stock clerk to maintain maximum work flow in the pharmacy and service to the patient.  These duties include, but are not limited to 11 through 14 below. Receives prescription and reviews it for completeness. Enters prescription information into computer (PIMS), either types label on typewriter, or reviews computer-generated label for accuracy, using pharmaceutical/medical terminology, symbols, and abbreviations, calculations/conversions (avoirdupois and apothecary to metric).  Makes necessary corrections Answers and makes telephone calls, consistent with assigned duties in accordance with telephone access standards. Sells prescriptions and pharmaceutical merchandise to patients. Promotes, ensures, and improves customer service to internal/external customers by demonstrating skills which are consistent with the organizations philosophy of providing extraordinary customer relations and quality service.

Must possess current California Pharmacy Technician registration

License, Certification, Registration

Pharmacy Technician License (California)

Drug Enforcement Administration Registration

Additional Requirements:

Ability to read, understand, and transcribe pharmaceutical information.
Working knowledge of current drug forms, dosage strengths, and generic and trade names equivalents.
Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding the provision of pharmaceutical services.
Ability to learn and operate pharmacy computer system and other equipment.
Requires standing for long periods of time and lifting 1-50 lbs. and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching.
Must pass DEA Clearance.
Must pass Pharmacy Technician training entrance exam.
Working knowledge of aseptic technique and ability to prepare sterile IV products.
Ability to learn and willingness to prepare chemotherapeutic agents in locations where chemotherapy agents are prepared.
Proficiency in oral and written English communication skills.
Ability to read, understand, and transcribe pharmaceutical information.
Working knowledge of current drug forms, strengths, generic and trade name traditional and current equivalents.
Requires working knowledge of, and the ability to become proficient in, the pharmacy computer system.
Knowledge of Federal and Sate laws and regulations regarding the provision of pharmaceutical services.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time, and communicate with co-workers and patients.
Ability to lift/transport 1-50 lbs., and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching.

Schedule to include all shifts rotating weekends, holidays and floating within the established seniority section
