Description: Under indirect supervision, operate radiographic equipment to produce radiographs of structures in the human body that are utilized by physicians for the diagnosis of disease processes, pathology and/or trauma. Utilizes technical judgement & skills to ensure that produced radiographs are of the highest diagnostic quality & demonstrate the area(s) of interest. Positions assigned to this classification are distinguished from Radiologic Technologists II & higher levels in that Radiologic Technologists I only perform routine, general diagnostic radiologic exams/procedures such as – but not limited to – chests & extremities.

– Documents clinical activities & required radiograph information in a timely, comprehensive, & accurate manner.
– Observes all organizational, regional, medical service area & diagnostic imaging department policies & procedures.

– Demonstrates professional behavior in all interactions w/ patients & staff.
– Maintains equipment, supplies & work area in accordance w/ department guidelines.
– Essential Clinical Duties/Responsibilities: Operate various x-ray control consoles, portable units, tube assemblies, lock systems, collimators, filters  & tables in order to perform diagnostic radiographic procedures & examinations.
– Ensure that correct & required patient identification & left or right marker appears on all films.
– Center area of interest to film & tube.
– Utilize appropriate use of photo-timing, milli-amperes, kilo-voltage, seconds, distance, collimation, intensifying screens, film speed & grids in order to produce diagnostic quality radiographs which demonstrate the area(s) of interest & exhibit acceptable contrast, density & detail.
– Explain the exam /procedure to the patient in order to solicit cooperation.
– Assesses the patient’s history & overall condition & makes the necessary modifications in technique and/or positioning to compensate for pathology or other considerations.
– Utilize knowledge of proper patient positioning & department protocols to obtain routine & other views required for standard projections.
– Observe all required radiation safety/protection regulations & standards in order to minimize dose & avoid / minimize repeat films, uses lead shielding & collimation as appropriate.
– Critique radiographs for diagnostic quality & other properties & appropriately consults with supervisor and/or radiologist to clarify any areas of uncertainty.
– Complete requisition with all required & pertinent information
– Load & unload radiographic film.
– Comply w/ all required continuing education standards.
– May perform other duties as required & assigned.

Pay Grade: 24


Basic Qualifications:

• One (1) year of clinical experience as a radiologic technologist in an acute care medical center or free standing diagnostic imaging center, preferred.

• Graduation from an accredited educational program in diagnostic Radiologic Technology approved by the American Medical Association (AMA) & the American College of Radiology.

• Certification as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) issued by the State of California, Department of Health Services.

• Registration as a Registered Radiologic Technologist (radiography) issued by the ARRT.

• Current and valid BLS Certification.

• Fluoroscopy permit issued by the state of California may be required as specified by department.

• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of & to utilize the principles, theories, practices & techniques of radiologic technology.



• This is a variable position, days and hours may vary.

• Position requires every other weekend, variable shift start times, travel to various locations within the service area, and cross-training in DEXA

• Travel to various locations within the service area (OCI,IMO,TRR,SAN,HBM,HNB,FHR, SJC)
